In 2007, beavers built a dam across an opening in the sand berms on the west shore. The resulting pond was 5 feet higher than the water level of Roxbury Pond, and the flooding caused several acres of trees to lose their leaves. Only a trickle of water flowed under their dam. But the beavers failed to maintain the dam and by 2009 it was no longer holding back any water.
